Learn how to deploy, pressure objectives, and place mines with The Other Side Infiltrators. A practical step-by-step unit box guide for King's Empire players.
Quick Answer
Deploy the Infiltrators forward and early, use their numbers to contest objectives before the main Imperial force arrives, and place mines to deny the most dangerous approach routes. Treat them as a shaping unit, not a frontline anvil.
Why the Infiltrators Want to Arrive First
The Infiltrators are a King's Empire squad of nine 32mm miniatures, supplied preassembled and unpainted. Their value comes from forward deployment and deception: they claim useful ground before the main force arrives, then make the rest dangerous with carefully placed mines. That means your first turns should be about board control, not direct damage.
Because they are a squad rather than a character or titan, they trade raw staying power for early pressure. Commit them where their early objective lead forces the opponent to react to you, not the other way around.
When Infiltrators Are the Wrong Choice
If your plan depends on a durable anchor holding the center while the rest of your force maneuvers, the Infiltrators will feel fragile. They are also a poor fit for scenarios where early objectives are not worth contesting, because their main advantage is tempo. In those cases, keep them in reserve as a late-game objective grabber rather than forcing an early engagement.
How to Field the Infiltrators: Step by Step
- Deploy forward and off-center: Use forward deployment to place the squad near an objective your opponent expects to claim late. Avoid the table center on turn one; a common mistake is deploying directly in front of the enemy's heaviest hitters, where the squad cannot trade favorably. Check that at least one objective is within a single move of your deployed position.
- Claim early objective pressure: Push the squad onto or near objectives in the first turn, forcing your opponent to divert resources to dislodge them. Do not spread all nine models thin; keep two or three together so they can concentrate if threatened. If you are not contesting at least one objective by the end of turn one, you have deployed too conservatively.
- Place mines to deny approach routes: Identify the lanes your opponent must cross to reach your main force, then place mines to make those lanes dangerous. A common mistake is mining the objective you already hold; mine the path to it instead, so the opponent pays to approach. Place mines where they force a detour, not where they only add a minor risk.
- Use deception to split attention: Threaten two objectives at once with part of the squad while keeping the rest hidden or out of line of sight. Force your opponent to guess which push is real. Do not commit the whole squad to a feint; keep the real push credible. If your opponent ignores one threat entirely, that is the push to commit to next turn.
- Hand off to the main force: Once the main Imperial force arrives, pull the Infiltrators back to support or grab a secondary objective. They have done their job if the enemy is out of position and the ground is already shaped. Do not leave them in the front rank once the battle lines close. Plan the handoff turn in advance so the squad is not caught in the open when the main force engages.
